Future support - RaspDAC Mini

Got this latest RaspDAC Mini kit couple of months ago. Its a great piece of HW but with 9038Q2M on board its impossible to keep up with updates

There is no official driver and who ever mocking drivers does not submitting them for acceptance into the Linux kernel!
So for this reason we are not able to use any latest version of the OS distribution (moOde/Volumio or such).

I see this as a big problem and I see this HW is not going to be very popular and eventually die. And pretty quick.
Now I regret I have bought it  Wish I have kept my old RaspDAC V3 ES9023 kit

Is there anything that can be done from Audiophonics side to support this? @Nicko @Audiophonics

Hello Rikardo,

Source of the driver are available, and it can be compiled on any kernel. But yes it's not the most convenient way.
We are supporting this driver for more than 2 years now, and should keep it for a long time, as it was made to be "standard" to be used for future boards.

At the same time we are considering to submit it for kernel integration, but nothing sure for now.
As I told you I will try to follow Moode Audio versions in the future, offering pre-configured images.

Even is the ES9023 is a good DAC audio performances of this board are better, so you should not have regrets.

Having pre-build images is an handy option it would be good and more convenient to be able to do it manually.
Most of the systems are updated very regularly (like moOde have been updated twice since!) and vendors are usually falling well behind

There have been moOde 4.4 release for few weeks and there is a new 4.5 coming in very short time as its in the heavy testing stage now.

Is there any chance that someone can build driver for this new releases please?

Not ready yet, but should be ready soon. I will let you know as soon is out.
Is there any chance you can direct me to place where I can find how to do it myself? Or would you be able to guide me?
If this would be something I can do I can do it every time moOde updates and I can help you to maintain all the updates

Hi Rikardo,

What do you think of that :

Today is a great day for us, we finally got the driver integrated into the Kernel.
Thanks to Klaus Schulz aka soundcheck for the patch and support, and Phil Elwell aka pelwell for the commit validation.

A bit late with a reply here but better late than never :)

Thanks to Audiophonics guys for having ESS drivers accepted into Linux kernel from now on
So now the newest moOde works perfect on this little unit.
Have a look into thread on our forum for more details
